Children's Education & Literacy

Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. is steadfast in its mission to transcend the traditional notions of a sorority by utilizing the power and passion of our sisterhood. This mission is put to action in every charter and chapter across the United States, creating a collective force of positive social change on both the college campus and surrounding communities. Through our commitment to service, the sisters of Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. reach beyond the spectrum of university life, and actively remain connected to the world around them through proactive efforts of human progress.

Literacy Through Unity Week Spring 2024

Every year, we hold an annual “Literacy Through Unity” Week, which is a series of events dedicated to raise awareness about children’s education and literacy. It aims to raise donations and funds to give to local charitable organizations affiliated with each corresponding chapter or charter, as well as to one of our national beneficiaries which we choose every year. Sisters nationwide help put together Literacy Through Unity Week at their respective chapter or colony to bring communities as well as students together. Events include seminars, donation drives, days of community service, benefit nights at businesses, bake sales, and more. Over the past years, we have been able to cumulatively raise over $83,000 nationwide.

This year, our sisters hosted our first LTUW, the theme being Alice In Wonderland. Our sisters held multiple events including a banquet, donation drive, multiple volunteering events, and a bake sale fundraiser.

Be The Change

Be The Change is a national annual day of service coordinated to inspire and foster civic engagement and stronger communities through volunteerism and community service. This event was nationally coordinated by SAALT (South Asian Americans Leading Together) until 2016, and has continued to be a part of Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc’s philanthropic efforts. Be The Change has been an opportunity for South Asian Americans and their allies to engage in collective public service activities that lead to deeper civic engagement, collaboration and unity in localized and national spaces. The event presents an opportunity to be connected, be engaged, and be inspired.

Project Purple

Every year, members participate in PurpleStride, a year-round national movement focused on funding programs and services for pancreatic cancer patients and their families. Purple Stride brings a sense of community to those who have been impacted by this difficult disease by giving them a shared bond. It is listed as the “number-one way” the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) raises money to comprehensively fight pancreatic cancer. Our participation in this event is an opportunity for us to honor the legacy of our fallen member, Khushbu Kheti, Sister Rapture, #3, of the Xi Class of Gamma Chapter.
